Niceville track pair qualifies for state
Staff Reports
Niceville brought numerous athletes to the Region 1-4A track and field meet hoping to qualify as many as possible for state.
Only two Eagles survived what some regard as the toughest region in the state.
Anna Carr will head to state for the fourth straight year, and this time she is going as a two-time regional champion. Carr won both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, breaking the school record in the 200. In the 100, she ran an 11.79, missing her own school record by .01 seconds. In the 200, she crossed the line in a time of 24.5 seconds. Carr's times in both events are among the best in the state.
On the other side, Ryan Howard will represent the Eagles in the 800-meter run. Howard took fourth in the event, crossing the line in 1:57.4. That time puts Howard among the top five in Class 4A.
"We competed hard, but this region is tough," Niceville coach Henry Spillers said. "We had a lot of personal-best times. You can't ask for much more than that."
Only those placing in the top four advanced to the state meet, which is May 3 in Winter Park.
