The South Walton Seahawks moved one step closer to bringing home the Class 1A State title Tuesday morning after they whipped the Villages 54-30 in the semi-finals at the Lakeland Center.

"It feels pretty awesome," said Casey Perot, a junior forward for the Seahawks.

"I thought we all played well. We stayed together and kept our poise," she told The Log just moments after the game.

The Seahawks, now 24-6, will take on the Chipley Tigers at 4:35 EST Wednesday at the Lakeland Center for the Class 1A State title. Chipley beat Hilliard in game one of the semis 55-50. The game will represent the first-ever shot at a state title for any team sport in the 10 years of South Walton High’s existence.

"I think we were the better team," said South Walton Coach Kevin Craig, noting experience and size. "It was a very physical game ... more than we've played in a long time.

"But we won and we've got our hands full tomorrow with Chipley," Craig said. "But we're here and playing for the title."

It will be an uphill battle Wednesday as Chipley beat the Hawks in November 47-38.
