She's been part of a state championship team, now Casey Perot is taking on a new challenge — college basketball.

Perot, the 19-year-old South Walton High senior, signed a letter of intent Tuesday to play basketball for the Gadsden State Community College Lady Cardinals.

"We are very fortunate to have Casey," Gadsden Assistant Coach Chad Butts told the small gathering in the media center at South Walton High Tuesday afternoon.

"It's an honor to have her not only on the basketball court but in the classroom as well. I honestly believe she is going to do very well there," Butts said.

Perot was part of the Seahawk team that captured the state title last year as well as being named the MVP for the state tournament. This past season, the Seahawks didn't fare as well finishing 14-14, but Perot had already caught the eye of the Gadsden coaches.

Head Cardinal Coach John Butts had seen Perot play in a couple of tournaments.

"The first time we saw her, we got attached, so we stayed in contact," Chad Butts said. "We really think she fits to what we do in Gadsden. I think she is going to help us and our program."
