The champagne was poured and the big checks were doled out Wednesday morning at Baytowne Wharf, as Sandestin Wine Festival presented a total of $54,000 to Fisher House of Emerald Coast and the Sandestin Foundation for Kids.

Representing the Fisher House, Executive Director Kim Henderson received a check for $33,000. Those funds will be used to assist military families with a loved one undergoing local, medical treatment.

"Having family close by helps those who are wounded to heal much faster and we wouldn't be able to do it without partners like you," Henderson said

Receiving a $21,000 check on behalf of Sandestin Foundation for Kids was Board Member, Sara Becnel. The donation will be put to great use, Becnel said.

"One dollar of every dollar we make goes to the people in need," she said.

Giving back has been a component to the Sandestin Wine Festival since day one, said Mark Hodgdon, general manager of Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Now, in its 27 year, it has kept that tradition for almost three decades and will continue to do so in the future.

"It's been a pleasure to do such worthwhile work," Hodgdon said. "We will continue to give back to the community that supports us every day."
