CRESTVIEW—Three people were taken to the hospital Saturday after their pickup truck was hit by an oncoming CSX train, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Uriel Paredes-Rodriguez, 25, of Freeport, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche north on South Rosebud Avenue at about 9 a.m. when he didn't stop at the stop sign and railroad crossing traffic control device on the southside of the track, the FHP crash report stated.
The pickup began to cross the tracks but its passenger side rear quarter panel was hit by a westbound CSX train driven by 29-year-old Charles Davis of Pace, according to the FHP.
The trailer being pulled by the pickup was severed, and the pickup overturned, ejecting 16-year-old Manuel Rodriguez of Santa Rosa Beach.
Rodriguez was the only one in the pickup not wearing a seatbelt.
Rodriguez was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center in serious condition.
Paredes-Rodriguez and a third passenger, 26-year-old Jose Maldanado of Santa Rosa Beach, was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center with minor injuries.
Paredes-Rodriguez has been charged with violation of a railroad crossing and operating a motor vehicle with passenger under the age of 18 years not restrained by a safety belt.
