Donald L. Evans

Donald L. Evans, 82, of Freeport, Fla., passed away to be with his Lord and Savior Feb. 5, 2014, after an extended illness. He was a dredge boat captain for many years and retired from Showell Farms after 22 years.

Donald was an avid fisherman and he and his wife, Shirley, were in the restaurant business for many years in Freeport.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Bennett and Rhoda Jane Evans; sister, Jaunita Caldwell; brothers, James Bennett Evans, Jr., and Augustus Evans; granddaughter, Eva Evans; and great-granddaughter, Braelyn Grace Kirkland.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Evans; sons, Charles Evans and Tiera Short, Dave Evans and Debra Evans, and Robert and Kris Evans; sister, Inez Holland of Baker, Fla.; sister-in-law, Jeanette Scroggins; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 8 at Black Creek United Methodist Church in Freeport, with Pastor Bill Hunter officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Committal services will follow at Black Creek United Methodist Cemetery. Flowers are being accepted.
