Katelyn Foley, the South Walton Fire District’s newest citizen volunteer, was welcomed this past month by Fire Chief Rick Talbert.

By volunteering, the junior at South Walton High School is well on her way to completing her scholarship volunteer requirements.

SWFD administrative volunteers share a sense of pride in the service they provide to our community. Some volunteers work a few hours a week, while others serve a few days a week. Special skills are a plus, but are not required to be a volunteer.

Volunteers like Foley assist in making South Walton a safer place to live and visit by contributing their time and talents in a number of supportive roles in all areas of the department. They assist firefighters and staff with administrative tasks such as:

• Answering the phone and greeting guests

• Assisting with special events and projects

• Filing

• Conducting phone surveys to determine citizen satisfaction with our services

• Data entry

Citizens’ volunteer assignments are based on their interests and abilities, as well as the needs of the Fire District. If interested in joining the team, email info@swfd.org, call 267-1298, visit www.swfd.org or contact Robbie Lund at rlund@swfd.org.
