Members of the local Women's Art Network have been meeting once a month for more than a dozen years in different members' homes to share some pot luck and their current pieces of artwork they are working on.

This month, the ladies have a larger venue in which to share their work at the Coastal Branch Library.

Thirty-nine pieces of artwork created by 15 members of the group will adorn the walls for the month of October.

The pieces represent several genres, including mixed media, acrylics, oils, watercolors, small quilts and scarves, woven baskets, stained glass, and unique handcrafted dolls.

Carol Dickson, WAN member and coordinator of the changing art exhibits at the library, said that for some time now, singles or different groups of artists came together to show their work on the library's walls each month, but to date, there had not been an exhibit open to the entire WAN network.

"I thought it was time for such a group exhibit," she said.

The WAN is comprised of women from Walton, Okaloosa and Bay counties. The network is unique in the fact that there are no dues or officers. The goal is to meet and discuss art, show art, and learn from and encourage other artists.

There are more than 100 members of the group, but not all are active at the same time. Dickson said if all were active at the same time, it would be difficult to find homes large enough to accommodate everyone for the meetings. On average, there are anywhere from 25-35 women attending every time, so, this is an active group where members support each other, she said.

Participating artists for this exhibit include Peggy Jones, Donnelle Clark, Melissa Brown, Joey McKenna, Gabi Bullard, Victoria Hunt, Judi Betts, Donna Vann, former Walton County Artist of the Year Dorothy Starbuck, Jackie Lynch, Susan Alfieri, Carol Dickson, Mary Brockett, Lois Kennedy and Suzanne West.

Coastal Branch Library is located at 437 Greenway Trail in Santa Rosa Beach. Hours are Monday 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., and Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
