Baytowne Art Walk

The Village of Baytowne Wharf welcomes the fall season under the moonlight with a weekend good for the art and soul. Stroll the streets and enjoy live music from local musicians and browse a variety of art from regional artists at the Baytowne Art Walk from 5-10 p.m. Aug. 29-31. The event is free.

An intimate, evening art experience, the Baytowne Art Walk strives to create an event that appeals to all ages and demographics. If interested in being a part of this year’s event, visit Booth fees are $100.

Notice to Walton County bed tax collectors

The local ordinance requiring $.005 of tax on short term accommodation rentals in South Walton County will sunset Sept. 30. This planned expiration of a portion of tourism development tax results in the total bed tax dropping from the current 4.5 percent to 4.0 percent.

Bed tax collectors should address their software platforms and/or procedural processing as the proper amount of tax shall be collected from visitors and remitted to Walton County beginning with collections on Oct. 1.

Cardiologist joins Sacred Heart Hospital

Dr. Charles Mayes, Jr., a cardiologist who trained in interventional cardiology at Duke University, has joined Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.

Dr. Mayes has more than 10 years of experience in performing catheter-based procedures to treat cardiovascular diseases. He has advanced training and experience in interventional heart procedures to restore blood flow to the coronary arteries and peripheral arteries.

He is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology and has practiced at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola for the past seven months. His professional interests include management of hypertension and cholesterol, heart valve disease, peripheral vascular disease, and complex coronary interventions.
