The turtles are a hatching, folks.

I was privileged to get to experience a phenomenon of the universe last weekend when I went to the beach at sunset to watch the digging up of a sea turtle nest. It was a nest that had already hatched. But right before the dig was to begin, the sand began to move and out popped a baby turtle. Then, another, and another, and another ... for a total of 29 babies that popped their heads through and took off running for their lives to the water to swim away and not return for 30 years. Wow! How do they know what to do, where to go, how to swim? Their mother is nowhere around to show them. Wow. And under a full moon. Maybe a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I wished them well.

I returned to the beach twice over the weekend to experience the full monster moon. Sweet! Sitting out there in the peace, quiet, and dark, under the full moon's light and all tourists gone ... the only sound was the push of the tide that rolled in. Why am I not out there every night?

What a magical weekend!

I ran into Shirley and Chuck Simpson outside The Vue one of those nights.

Before the weekend began, I enjoyed dinner at the newly-remodeled home of Carl and Janice Fedkenheuer. They have done a great job on the remodel! Dinner of shrimp scampi, wedge salad, and homemade red-velvet cake topped with homemade cream-cheese icing ... my, oh, my, Carl, you out did yourself.

I am going to be in deep trouble with trainer Jack Silberman. However, Jack is a real taskmaster and I have confidence he can take it off me in class. At least I hope so.

I hear that Lady Antebellum was in town last weekend. Welcome back! lists Santa Rosa Beach as No. 3 on its list of 11 Stunning Small Florida Towns You Need to Visit.
