Nancy Powell Kelley

Nancy Powell Kelley passed away peacefully at her home in Miramar Beach, Fla. Born in Memphis, Tenn., on Aug. 2, 1947, she graduated from Central High School and attended the University of Tennessee. She was president of the Pi Mu Music Society of St. Louis and a member of the Beethoven Club of Memphis.

She was a partner with her mother in the Doctors Exchange Answering Service for many years. Pursuing her interest in child health issues, Nancy joined the LeBonheur club of Memphis in 1989 serving in many capacities until she became its president in 1999.

After moving to their new home in Sandestin Resort, she volunteered for various duties at Sacred Heart Hospital Emerald Coast and Sacred Heart Foundation where she served as the inaugural chair of the Foundationís Development Board. She also served on the hospitalís operating board. She was a significant part of the planning for the new Family Birthing Center at Sacred Heart. 

She is survived by husband, John C. Kelley of Miramar Beach; daughter, Amy E Kelley of Miramar Beach; son, John Bradley Kelley, daughter-in-law Margaret Kelley, granddaughter Eliza L. Kelley of Memphis; and her mother-in-law, Louise W. Kelley of Spring, Texas.

 She is predeceased by her father, Marian P. Powell and her mother Lena O. Powell of Memphis. and her father-in-law John C. Kelley Sr. of Tupelo, Miss.

Funeral Services will be at Community Church of Santa Rosa Beach 3424 W. U.S. 98 on Feb. 16. A public viewing will begin at 1 p.m. with the funeral program beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will be immediately after the funeral program at historic Gulf Cemetery on County Road 393 Santa Rosa Beach.

While flowers are welcome, the family requests that donations be made to the Sacred Heart foundation Emerald Coast, 7700 US Hwy. 98 W. Suite 300, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459 and/or to LeBonheur Club Inc., 1047 Cresthaven Road, Memphis, TN 38139.

Roy Paul Gates, Jr.

Mr. Roy Paul Gates, Jr., 91, passed away Feb. 7, 2013, in Miramar Beach, Fla.  He was born July 25, 1921, in New York, N.Y., to Roy Gates Sr. and Irene Estey Gates.

Mr. Gates   was a resident of Santa Rosa beach for 15 years moving from Dallas, Texas. He was a veteran of WWII serving his country in the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 101st Air Borne Division Company E. He was a member of the Bike Club and Camel Club in Santa Rosa Beach.

Mr. Gates is preceded in death by his parents, and one son-in-law, Harry Richard Dannaker.

Mr. Gates is survived by his daughters, Anne Dannaker of Westchester, Pa., and Hellen Jane Martin and husband R.D. of Lake Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Sean Richard Dannaker and wife Sheri, and Michael James Dannaker and wife Doris; and one great-granddaughter, Mia.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Camel Club, 247 East Hewitt Road in Santa Rosa Beach.
