The Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service notified Walton County that five miles of South Walton coastline was home to 515 Choctawhatchee beach mouse, which were being considered for inclusion on the federal government’s endangered species list.

Andrew Dier of Mack Bayou received a $50 check for his winning entry in the Cooperative Tourism Development Council’s slogan contest. Dier’s winning slogan was “The Emerald Coast.”
