John Allen Hockersmith

Mr. John Allen Hockersmith, 86, passed away Aug. 8, 2014. He was born in Newburg, Pa., to Bruce and Fredy Swartz Hockersmith. 

Mr. Hockersmith was a resident of Freeport for the past 13 years and a Methodist by faith and a member of the Freeport United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of WWII serving his country in the United States Navy. He worked as a line supervisor with AT &T for over 35 years before retiring. He was an avid talker who enjoyed golfing and cooking. He had a good sense of humor and loved his cats “Kit” and “Cat.”    

Mr. Hockersmith was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years, Donnalee Hockersmith, and sister, June.

Mr. Hockersmith  is survived  by his daughters, Susan  Mastrangelo of Pennsylvania and Gwen Hockersmith and Brigitte Unger of Freeport; brothers, Lee and Bruce Hockersmith of Pennsylvania; sister, Norma of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Michael, Tommy and Amanda Mastrangelo, Jennifer Hollen and Stephen Mastrangelo; and seven great-grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 14 at Freeport United Methodist Church, 150 Harrison Street in Freeport.

James Getchel Massey Jr.

Mr. James Getchel Massey Jr., 65, passed away Aug. 24, 2014. He was born March 11, 1949, in Naugatuck, W. Va. to James and Jesse Evans Massey.

Mr. Massey was a resident of Freeport, Fla. He attended Freeport High School. He worked as a mechanic for many years and working on vehicles was his passion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed the antique car shows.

Mr. Massey was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Massey is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Rebecca Ann Massey of Freeport; son, Michael J. Massey of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; godson, Brandon Peters of Freeport; daughters, Anita J. Massey and husband Michael Ammons of DeFuniak Springs, Joleen Miguel' Leon and husband Martin of Panama City Beach, Fla. and Jessica N. Massey of Freeport; brother, Clinton Massey and wife Valerie of Georgia; sisters, Anita Brewer of Kentucky and Lucy Massey of Tallahassee, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation services will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 28 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home, 150 East Highway 20, in Freeport.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 29 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike McVay officiating.
Burial will follow in Hatcher Cemetery.

Floral arrangements are being accepted.
