Walton County and Walton Emergency Management, in conjunction with the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have applied for a Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Project for the elevation of flood prone structures within Walton County.

Under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), EO 11988 and EO 11990, public notice is required of any federal actions that affect floodplains or wetlands. All necessary permits will be obtained prior to construction and completion of the project.

The proposed FMA Project will impact specific structures on the following streets:

* Childers Lane, Freeport

* Lakeview Drive, Santa Rosa Beach

* River Rd, Ponce de Leon

The objectives of the Flood Mitigation Assistance Program are to prevent future losses of lives and property, to enable mitigation measures to be implemented during immediate recovery from disasters and to provide funding for identified and approved hazard mitigation projects.
