"A 5 percent increase is a healthy growth rate for the last month of the summer season, so we are happy with that."
Walton County Tourist Development Council reports tourist development tax collections were up again for the month of August.
The total bed tax dollars for this period were $2,228,309.24, according to TDC Director of Communications David Demarest.
In comparison, this number is 5.86 percent higher than August 2016.
The fiscal year 2017 year-to-date total is 8.71 percent higher than FY 2016.
"August was a very good month for us," said Jason Cutshaw, TDC's director of administration. "A 5 percent increase is a healthy growth rate for the last month of the summer season, so we are happy with that.
"It reflects an increase in demand for Walton County, which ties in to both visitation and the price point of our accommodation partners. Tourism is the primary economic driver for Walton County, so these numbers are good news for all our businesses and employees."
