The tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., on Feb. 14 left 17 dead and 17 wounded. But it need not have happened.

There were many opportunities for the FBI, the Broward County Sheriff’s Department and administrators to prevent the shooting from happening.

The shooter’s background and unstable condition were made known to the proper officials.

But this unfortune event gave anti-gun activists an opportunity to inflame the people with false information on guns.

After the shooting some of the media and anti-gun advocates immediately zeroed in on gun control.

The public was fed misleading and false information about guns. Many focused on gun control rather than focusing on analyzing the problem.

They seem to not to realize that guns are not the problem.

Many in the media and anti-gun activists tried to put the blame on the National Rifle Association. The NRA is the most patriotic organization in the United States.

The NRA protects the Second Amendment, which allows citizens to own guns for enjoyment and self-protection.

NRA members are the most responsible citizens in the United States on gun ownership.

Wisconsin sheriff Dale Schmidt argues that a major cause of mass shootings is caused by a radical culture shift that has occurred in the U.S. over the years – a culture shift caused by weak parenting.

Schmidt says that substance abuse and mental health problems are also a driving factor and we must raise our children in a manner that instills respect for authority.

Some psychologists say that we have taken God out of lives and our spiritual needs are not being met. Evil usually sets in when Bible teaching is removed.

American citizens must accept the fact that guns are not the problem. It is our society.

Taking away gun rights is not going solve the problem.

Guns are needed more today to protect against criminals.

More and more people can prevent crime by owning guns. With increased crime, protection is needed more than ever. When someone is breaking into your home, law enforcement cannot make it to your home in time to prevent the crime.

Gun ownership is a right that must not be infringed upon.

Guns can be a deterrent to criminal activity.

If a criminal knows he is facing a gun, he will back off.

Florida has passed a bill to restrict gun ownership of people from 19 to 21. The NRA immediately filed a lawsuit against Florida. I think this clearly infringes on the Second Amendment. Criminals don’t obey laws, so why restrict law-abiding citizens from owning guns?

The most promising proposal for preventing school shootings is to harden school by arming teachers or increasing security by hiring security guards and restricting access to school building.

The vast majority of mass shooting have occurred in areas where guns are banned.

Criminals are less likely to attack a secure area even when facing death because of fear of failure.

Experienced and unbiased people (not politicians) in mid-America should be consulted to come up with a school prevention plan.

Some states in mid-America haves already taken steps to arm staff members to prevent school shootings.
