LOUNTSTOWN - The investigation continued Sunday into a single-car accident a few miles north of here Saturday night that claimed the lives of two Jackson County residents.
The Florida Highway Patrol identified the victims as Michael Lee Brincefield, 24, of Alford and Kristen Angel Martin, 19, of Marianna. Troopers wrote in an accident report that Brincefield was driving and Martin was a passenger.
According to an FHP press release, the accident took place at 9:13 p.m. Saturday on State 71 at Bob Guilford Road, about 3.5 miles north of Blountstown. State 71 begins in Port St. Joe and winds its way north through Blountstown toward Marianna until it reaches the Alabama state line.
The press release said Brincefield lost control of his 1996 Chevrolet Prizm as it was northbound on State 71 near Bob Guilford Road, causing it to cross the center line and go across the west shoulder.
The car “struck a fence and then a tree with the passenger side,” the release said, and came to a rest against the tree. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene and Brincefield was pronounced dead later at Bay Medical Center.
The release said seatbelts were not in use at the time of the crash and that it remains under investigation.
