SANTA ROSA BEACH — The Walton County Sheriff’s Office and the South Walton Fire District responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a rollover Thursday afternoon on U.S. Highway 98.

According to a post on Twitter by the Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at the intersection of Old Ferry Bay Road and U.S. 98. One patient was taken by helicopter to a hospital and one lane was closed in both directions.

Photos from the scene show a box truck from International Drilling and Sawing Inc. in the median with sever front-end damage.

The South Walton Fire District said crews were trying to contain hazardous materials that spilled from the vehicles. Fire Marshall Sammy Sanchez said he did not have any more information other than what was posted to social media.

The accident was first reported at 2:42 p.m., Sanchez said. He said he believes the accident occurred between 2:30-2:40 p.m.
