DeFUNIAK SPRINGS — A 20-year-old man has been charged with three felonies after he allegedly broke into a gas station and stole five packs of cigarettes.

Walton County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Raceway gas station at 14338 W. U.S. Highway 90 on June 23 in reference to a burglary, according to the Sheriff's Office. Employees there had found that the front window had been shattered, the store’s phone box and alarm box had been tampered with and the power had been turned off.

Damage was estimated at $470. The only things stolen from the store were five packs of cigarettes worth a total of $27.05.

Investigators caught up with Trenton E. Murphy of DeFuniak Springs after he reportedly told numerous people that he had broken into the store, the Sheriff's Office reported. He was arrested and jailed Wednesday on charges of felony criminal mischief, burglary to an unoccupied structure and petit theft.
