SANTA ROSA BEACH – A 32-year-old man was charged with theft after jumping the fence of a rental home and riding away on one of the bicycles provided to renters.

The man was dressed in black with a bright orange backpack, according to his Walton County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

The bicycle was bright red and unlocked.

The Sheriff’s Office received several calls about a man matching the suspect’s description jumping over fences.

He was later seen riding the red bicycle on County Road 30A just after the reported time of the theft.

The theft was just one criminal act he is accused of in the South Walton area.

In unrelated acts, he is accused of breaking into a home and stealing more than $1,000 in possessions, including a gun, more bikes, an iPad and other items.

His accomplice was a 36-year-old woman with whom he has a child, the report said.

The family appears to be homeless.

Some of the stolen items were traded for heroin, according to his arrest report.

In yet another break-in, the sprinkler system was set off, flooding the home and damaging its contents. The man’s orange backpack was found in the home.

Both of the individuals are in the Walton County Jail facing numerous felony and misdemeanor charges.
