HOLMES COUNTY — Three Holmes County Jail staff have been placed on administrative leave after two inmates escaped early Monday.

Holmes County Sheriff John Tate was notified at approximately 4:30 a.m. Monday that Devante LaQuawn Carswell and Charles Lorenzo Lee were unaccounted for during a security check, according to a press release from the Holmes County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the Bonifay Police Department and the Holmes Correctional Institution K9 Team, recaptured the two men at approximately 7 a.m. without incident in the area of Indiana Avenue, the press release said.

Tate ordered an internal investigation and jail video surveillance footage is currently under review.

Lee was being held at the Holmes County Jail on charges of obstruction of a criminal investigation, fraud-impersonation, larceny, burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office. Carswell was charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, tampering with evidence, carrying a concealed weapon and resisting an officer without violence.

Both Carswell and Lee now face several additional felony charges for escaping.
