Crestview’s Riverside Elementary School has seen hurricane-displaced students recently enroll, so the school welcomed the students and families.
“We did a quick drive to collect items for a comfort bag for the displaced students and their families,” said Becky Breda, Title I reading assistant.
Needs became evident during the school enrollment procedures.
“Our sweet ladies up front (in the office) just step back to the staging area and grab as many bags as a family needs,” Breda continued.
“Other items like the Halloween costumes had been delivered and distributed on weekend runs to the affected areas, which included far more than just Bay County,” she also said.
“One of our recently retired third-grade teachers has taken it on herself to help a Tyndall Elementary third-grade teacher rebuild his classroom,” Breda added. “It sounded like his portable classroom had been completely destroyed, and all the lovingly curated collection of teacher paraphernalia with it.”
The Walton Academy hosts a fall festival from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday.
“We include a lot of fun festival activities,” said academy principal David Schmidt, “but most important we include the Head Start program, where our students will be hosting the Head Start students and their teachers and parents at our fall fest.
“It is great to see our students looking out for the younger kids,” he added.
