MOSSY HEAD— A Santa Rosa Beach woman was killed and two passengers in her car suffered critical injuries Wednesday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 10.

Joni Pridgen, 38, was driving a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire east on I-10 at 12:40 p.m. near Mossy Head when she lost control of her vehicle, according to the FHP. The car veered onto the south shoulder and hit a mile marker sign before it sideswiped a tree and crashed into another tree.

Pridgen was ejected from the vehicle and was killed. Her passengers, 30-year-old Jessica Helm and 12-year-old Seath Helm of DeFuniak Springs, were critically injured, according to the FHP. Jessica Helm was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and Seath Helm was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

Eastbound I-10 was shut down for a time as rescuers responded to the scene and medical helicopters were called in.

Seath Helm was wearing a seat belt but Jessica Helm and and Pridgen were not, the FHP reported.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
