Karen Moosekian, the president of the Walton County Snowbird club, was all smiles when new and returning members reported in during recent registration events. The membership needle moved steadily north as new members joined the ranks of returning snowbirds who were happily renewing treasured acquaintances and making new ones.
Meanwhile, volunteers stood by to sign up members for the club’s numerous activities. Golfers found plenty of help with experienced volunteers Bob Swenson and Ken Noble on-hand to share information about local courses, play days, scrambles and league play. Other volunteers who eased members into the season’s activities included Jane Chadderdon, Kathleen Caught, Joe Wolschlang, Ken Lamiere, Donna Reed, Joe Moosekian, Betty Swenson, and several others dedicated to the same ideal: making time spent on this idyllic shore a memorable experience.
New and returning members who have not yet done so may register next on Wednesday, Jan. 2, and Friday, Jan. 4, at Faith Assembly Fellowship Hall at 306 S. Geronimo St. in Miramar Beach between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. and at general meetings where area vendors display their wares, followed by entertainment and prize giveaways. A little business gets mixed in along the way. The general meetings are at the Life Center of the Destin United Methodist Church at 200 Beach Drive.
The club’s entertainment chair, Joe Moosekian reminds members to have 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, down in their memory jogger because that is when the Walton County Snowbirds will hold its first general meeting of 2019. Joe will introduce the return engagement by popular request of singer-musician Jim Sparacino, also known as Sputzy.
