WALTON COUNTY — A 29-year-old Freeport man died Sunday night in a single-vehicle accident on County Road 83A near Shoreline Drive.
Matthew Gilbert was driving north in a Ford F150 at 9:30 p.m. when he failed to maintain control of the truck and ran off the right shoulder of the road, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Gilbert's truck hit a mailbox, a ditch, a power line guide wire, a pole and a tree, the release said. The impact with the tree caused the vehicle to overturn and roll over.
The truck continued to roll north and eventually stopped upright facing northeast.
Gilbert, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was found near where the truck came to a final rest.
Gilbert was not taken to a hospital, according to the release.
