OKALOOSA COUNTY — A 14-year-old boy was left in serious condition and two others were injured Tuesday afternoon after a rollover crash on State Road 285.
Christine Kline, 43 of DeFuniak Springs, was driving south in a Dodge Dakota on State Road 285 near mile marker 10 at 2:36 p.m., according to a press release from Florida Highway Patrol. The hood of Kline's vehicle flew up into her windshield, causing her to veer into the northbound lane.
The front left corner of Kline's vehicle collided with the front left corner of a Scion TC driven by 19-year-old Tabitha Chesnut of DeFuniak Springs. Chesnut's 14-year-old passenger, Matthew Wilson, was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital with serious injuries, the release said.
The impact caused Chesnut's vehicle to rotate clockwise and overturn, the press release said. It came to a stop on the east shoulder lying sideways on the driver's side facing southeast.
Kline's truck stopped on the west shoulder of the road facing west. Her hood latch was not functioning properly before the crash, which contributed to her crossing the center line, according to the release.
Kline and Chesnut both received minor injuries.
Kline was charged with failing to maintain a single lane and operating a vehicle with unsafe equipment.
