SANTA ROSA BEACH — A 27-year-old man was arrested Saturday after injuring another man using a beer bottle.
The Walton County Sheriff's Office was called to Sacred Heart Hospital after the victim came into the emergency room with six lacerations to his body and a bruise on his head, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office. The injuries appeared to be from a fight, the press release said.
The victim told investigators he was in an argument when the suspect, identified as Omar Castaneda Bernal of Santa Rosa Beach, hit him over the the head. The victim said he then lost consciousness.
When he awoke, he noticed several lacerations on his body that required stitches and staples.
Bernal fled the area and attempted to conceal his identity when approached by law enforcement. He denied any physical contact with the victim.
Several witnesses to the argument were interviewed and a broken beer bottle was recovered from the scene where the fight occurred, the press release said.
Bernal was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and was given a $10,000 bond. He was still incarcerated as of noon Monday.
