Niceville High School senior Courtney Faulker has been awarded the $1,000 Emerald Coast Public Relations Foundation scholarship. Courtney intends to attend Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, for a degree in marketing and management.


During a recent county drone competition, two Ruckel Middle School teams, Ruckel 1 and Keep it Simple, participated in four categories.

Keep It Simple placed third in its first-ever drone competition, with team members Taylor Bryan, Lauren Traynor and Cece Jordan.

The Ruckel 1 team consists of David Phillips, Cooper Seymour and Tommy Roberts.

Cooper also earned a first place, while Taylor earned a second, for the individual knowledge category.

In chorus news, the Florida Vocal Association Choral Music Performance Assessments adjudication panels awarded Choirs of Distinction recognition to the Ruckel Ambassadors Mixed Ensemble and Director Michelle Tredway.


Back in March, the Rocky Bayou Christian Academy Latin students took the National Latin Exam. Their results arrived.

Individual silver medals, maxima cum laude, went to Caitie Barnes, Kyle Burden, Landon Byrd and Caroline Seeling. Ben Clark and Skylar Stoffel earned magna cum laude, while Moriah Lynch earned cum laude.

In addition, Landon Byrd earned a silver medal for his results on the National Roman Civilization Exam, taken in February. Caroline Seeling earned silver and Amanda Brannon earned bronze for the National Latin Vocabulary Exam, also taken in February.


Fort Walton Beach High School student Stephanie Winningham received the City of Fort Walton Beach ACE Award for success in and out of school.


South Walton High School senior Greg Garrett is a semifinalist in the Presidential Scholars Program, putting him among the top 500 applicants in the nation.


Today at 4 p.m., Hobbs Middle School, Milton, celebrates its 50th anniversary by honoring principals and teachers past and present.
