With the opening of summer vacation, the Valparaiso Community Library offers a reading program, “A Universe of Stories.” It runs on Mondays at 2 p.m., starting June 3 and going until July 31.

The library has ordered new children’s books, which should be ready in time for summer.

Lewis School Principal Mike Fantaski received recognition in April by the nonprofit Florida TaxWatch organization for his leadership and positive influence on students. Fantaski is one of nine 2018-19 winners in the state.

TaxWatch also awarded a two-year Florida College Plan Scholarship to student Hayden White as part of the Academic A+ Scholarship program.

In track team news, eighth-grader Kaden Levings qualified for the state meet and competed in the 1,500-meter race, placing sixth.

For the second year running, Collegiate High School earned the College Success award presented by GreatSchools, a national nonprofit organization.

The South Walton High School National Honor Society chapter elected its officers for the 2019-20 academic year: President Fiona Morris, Vice President Maddie Gilmore, Treasurer Fisher Marks and Secretary Rocky Villanueva.

Walton High School recent graduates Kaylee McBroom and Sarah Early signed their official commitments.

Kaylee will cheer at Troy University.

Sarah will compete on the Georgia Southwestern State University cross country team.

Two Rocky Bayou Christian School students, Jenna Lewis and Adam Mistretta, are among the 77 finalists out of 382 students nominated for Outstanding Scholar and/or Musician by the Southern Baptist Association of Christian Schools member schools.

The award is based on academic success, faculty recommendations to character, services and leadership within their schools, churches and communities.

With fewer people reading books, it truly is an accomplishment for students in Rebecca Stuart’s Paxton School class to earn more than 300 Accelerated Reader points. Accelerated Reader provides a computer-based test that assess the reader’s comprehension of the text, covering a variety of books.
