South Walton Fire District responded to a structure fire on Monday on Nikki Circle. The fire marshal said it was a 'total loss.'
SANTA ROSA BEACH — South Walton Fire District firefighters spent hours on the scene of a structure fire on Monday.
According to Fire Marshal Sammy Sanchez, the district was notified of the blaze on Nikki Circle at about 9:30 a.m. Firefighters arrived "within minutes" and found smoke billowing from the trailer's roof.
"We contained it pretty quickly, but it was kind of a difficult fire because it got in the attic," said Sanchez, who added that Monday's heat advisory also made the job "a little tougher."
He added that two people — both of whom made it out safety — were asleep inside when the fire ignited.
An investigation determined that the fire originated at a porch light on the back of the trailer.
"I don't know what the dollar value is ... but there's not going to be much they can salvage," he said. "I would consider it a total loss."
The last crews left at about 1:30 p.m., Sanchez said.
