FORT WALTON BEACH – Two local restaurants are once again offering free Thanksgiving Day meals to the community
AJ’s on the Bayou in Fort Walton Beach (200 Eglin Parkway NE) and Harbor Docks in Destin (538 Harbor Boulevard) are both extending a helping hand on Thursday.
It’s the fourth year that AJ’s is hosting the event, with their doors open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Last year, AJ’s served almost 700 meals.
Harbor Docks is hosting for the 25th year, with its doors open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“We open up our doors to everyone, to ensure that no one is alone or hungry for the holiday,” said AJ’s General Manager Keith Waters.
Both locations will serve traditional Thanksgiving menus, including turkey, ham, stuffing, turkey gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, cranberry relish, garden salad, dinner rolls and an assortment of pies.
There is no charge for the meal at either location, with donations accepted at both.
Harbor Docks donations will benefit Okaloosa Habitat and Destin Harvest. AJ’s donations will benefit the Kids on the Coast Foundation and provide support for the holiday season.
“We want to give back to those that may not have the means to celebrate Thanksgiving,” AJ’s owner Alan Laird said. “We also want to provide a gathering place for those who don’t have anyone with which to share the holiday meal or for those who simply want to celebrate with their neighbors.
“This is our way to thank the community that provides for us and our families, each and every day.”
