Here’s a look at local options for cutting down your own Christmas tree:
Eglin Air Force Base
Eglin Air Force Base is the largest base in the world when it comes to land mass. It is also a main area where you can chop down your own Christmas tree for only $1. To do so you need an Eglin reservation recreation permit, Sand pine Christmas tree permit and a saw.
Permits for the Eglin reservation can be purchased at Eglin Natural Resources Office in Niceville at 107 State Road 85 or online. For additional information call (850) 882-4164
Jeffery Christmas Tree Farm (Bay County)
The Jeffrey Christmas Tree Farm (2816 Kingswood Drive, Panama City) is open Monday-Friday, 12 p.m.-5 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Christmas tree varieties include: Leyland Cypress, Virginia Pine, Spruce Pine. You pick and cut your own Christmas Tree with 60 acres and 2 fields to choose from, beginning the day after Thanksgiving through December 22. Cash and check only.
They also have a wide selection of Leyland Cypress, Arizona Blue Ice Cypress, Red Cedars, Florida Pines, and Virginia Pines, and trees range from three to 25 feet.
Whispering Pines Christmas Tree Farm (Santa Rosa County)
Whispering Pines Christmas Tree Farm (1603 Penton Road, Milton) is open Friday-Sunday 10 a.m-5 p.m., and after Dec. 17th please call 850-304-1559 to make sure staff is available. Virginia Pines, Red Cedars and Leyland Cypress are available. Choose and cut your own.
Maphis Tree Farm and Nursery (Washington County)
Maphis Tree Farm and Nursery (814 Rattlebox Road, Chipley) lets you choose and cut your own Christmas trees, wreaths and also has Santa visits. Hours are Monday-Saturday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. beginning the day after Thanksgiving, plus Sunday 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Trees are bagged, tree shaking provided, saws provided. Payment options are cash, check, debit cards, Visa/MasterCard, Discover. Christmas tree varieties include: Arizona Cypress, Carolina Sapphire, Eastern Red Cedar, Leyland Cypress, Virginia Pine.
