Power is out in the Freeport area due to a vehicle accident. Meanwhile, WCSO wants people to stop calling 911 to report the outage.

FREEPORT — The Walton County Sheriff’s Office reports a vehicle has struck a power pole in the Black Creek Boulevard area of Freeport, and power is out to about 1,400 homes.

They say residents are calling 911 to report the outage, and that 911 is not the proper venue for such calls.

“We understand there are football games on today that are important to some folks,” the WCSO said in a tweet. “We also realize that a power outage may (affect) your ability to watch said games.

“That is still not a valid reason to call 911.”

No word on when the power will be restored.

We understand there are football games on today that are important to some folks. We also realize that a power outage may effect your ability to watch said games.

That is still not a valid reason to call 911.
