Munitions testing in the eastern end of Eglin Air Force Base is expected to produce ’a loud boom’ between 8 a.m. and noon Thursday, according to an announcement from the 53rd Wing Public Affairs office.
EGLIN AFB — An F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet from the 85th Test and Evaluation Squadron is scheduled to release live munitions on Range B-82 in the central section of the eastern half of the Eglin reservation between 8 a.m. and noon Thursday, according to the 53rd Wing Public Affairs office.
"The munitions will cause a loud boom in the surrounding Eglin and Hurlburt Field area," according to an announcement.
The 85th TES will drop the munitions to test a new bomb fuse system "that will eventually be used in smart weapons employed by both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy," the announcement noted.
The 85th TES is part of Eglin’s 53rd Wing, the primary operational test and evaluation wing for the Air Force.
