The $42 million project for widening and improving U.S. Highway 98 in Walton County is scheduled to be complete in early 2020.

MIRAMAR BEACH — There's a new road closing due to the $42 million project to widen and improve U.S. Highway 98.

Mainsail Drive, between County Road 2378 and Open Gulf Drive, closed for construction beginning Monday — part of the project on U.S. 98 between Emerald Bay Drive and Tang-O-Mar Drive in Walton County.

All drivers will be routed to the new access road from Mainsail Drive to U.S. 98 eastbound, and will only be allowed to turn right at this location, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

To travel westbound on U.S. 98, motorists will make a U-turn at the U.S. 98/C.R. 238 intersection to turn right on to the new Mainsail Drive access road, although access will be maintained for residential homes on Mainsail Drive.

Work on the project is scheduled for completion in early 2020, according to FDOT.
