DEFUNIAK SPRINGS — A DeFuniak Springs man faces child abuse charges after an investigation following a complaint submitted by a Walton County educator.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office Child Protection Unit received the complaint late January regarding Douglas Gladue, 45, abusing a child.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau launched an investigation and found the victim had medical needs that were not being addressed by Gladue, according to a press release from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

Child Protective Investigators attempted to assist on multiple occasions to provide resources and transportation to appointments, but Gladue would either cancel or not take the victim to the appointment, authorities say.

A warrant was obtained for child neglect and Gladue was taken into custody Wednesday.

Investigators with CPU and CIB are providing services and health care needs to the victim in this case.

Gladue received a $2,500 bond and is still in custody at this time, the release stated.
