PANAMA CITY BEACH — With all of the salvageable merchandise long gone from the shelves, demolition to Alvin’s Island Magic Mountain mall is underway. Contractors started the massive razing on Monday with the storage building to the north of the mountain and on the staircase section on the southwest portion of the property.
The News Herald was invited to take one last look inside of the building. As of Wednesday afternoon, most rooms stood empty with shattered glass scattered over the floor. Dusty artificial flowers covered a ceiling in a room full of white pillars that was once full of beach-themed souvenirs.
The tunnel inside of the orange mountain showed graffiti marks on signage that dates back to the 1960’s when the mall was an amusement park called Jungle Land. The demolition is expected to be complete within two weeks.
