In this part of the world, Destin is the place to be for many people. With loads of restaurants, entertainment options and tourist attractions, it typically has the biggest crowds of both locals and tourists.
But just because it’s beautiful, doesn’t mean it’s risk free.
Social distancing in Destin may be more difficult, but here are a few ways to get it done and still enjoy all that the waterfront city has to offer.
Rise and Shine
The later you stay in bed in the morning, the more people you’ll see at the stores, beaches and restaurants. Set that alarm back a few hours, watch the sunrise at the beach, take a stroll and hit the local restaurants before everyone else is stirring. You’ll get a first-hand look at the day, without coming face to face with too many people.
Take it To-Go
You can still enjoy all of Destin’s amazing restaurants, but take it to-go and go somewhere beautiful to enjoy your breakfast, lunch and dinner. Destin has a dozen smaller parks that are off the beaten path. Some are on the water, while others are in shaded neighborhoods.
If you’re staying in a beachside hotel or rental property, your balcony should have all the social distance you need to feel spoiled, and safe. Bring your meals there, share a bottle of wine, take some great selfies so everyone back home can feel a little bit jealous.
If you’ve got a pool at your home or rental property, spend some time in cool, refreshing chlorinated water. It’s a great disinfectant and nothing makes you feel more pampered than cool, clear blue water on a hot day. At the beach, plunge into the surf, conditions permitting. There’s plenty of Gulf of Mexico to go around. That’s why you’re here, right?
Keeping it scenic
Google scenic drives in Northwest Florida and hit the road. There’s plenty to see on a hot summer day along some of our most beautiful highways. The stretch of pavement between Navarre Beach and Pensacola Beach will make you feel like you are in paradise. Head north from the beach and find winding roads over clear water creeks, trees creating a shady arch over the road and miles of forest. You might even see fields of fluffy white cotton.
Wear a mask
Feeling the need for a little more social life? Get yourself a beach-themed mask or sport your favorite team’s logo. Make a statement about who you are or where you are as you stroll through local stores and shopping centers.
