Duane Keck of Mary Esther writes: “Recently, as I was asked to share with some special needs, and gifted children, a 10-year-old boy said, ’All I want is a book to read, and some toilet paper.’ ”

This is my 40th year of wearing that red suit, and asking little children what they wanted for Christmas.

Most of them ask for material things like bikes, dolls, cell phones and things you would expect them to ask for. But occasionally they will surprise you, almost to the point of tears.

One 5-year-old boy said all he wanted was to bring his daddy home from the war. A 5-year-old girl said, “Get my mommy and daddy together again.”

Recently, as I was asked to share with some special needs, and gifted children, a 10-year-old boy said, “All I want is a book to read, and some toilet paper.”

Oh, how I wish I could do all that these children think I can do. I can't, but I can pray for them
