Frank Roberts of Fort Walton Beach says the government should reinstate the draft, if for no other reason than to educate our ignorant children.

I am not a member of the greatest generation, although I was raised by two.

I did join the S.C. Army National Guard, Company F, when I was 16 – the same year that I began to drive a school bus for Chester County South Carolina - paid $35 a month. I drove for 10th, 11th and 12th grades. The National Guard helped me to begin American history and to accept responsibilities.

With those memories, this letter was motivated by a statement in one of Dr. Walter Williams columns: that “today’s youth is ignorant of history.”

How do we fill that ignorance? I think that there is one way to address that ignorance, and it should start now. President Trump should enact the United States military draft to all who are 18, as we once did.

The schools and colleges have been unable to address this. The churches do not do it. Our families have been unable, or unmotivated to do it. And our youth, themselves, have little interest in doing it.

Nuff said! If the shoe fits!
