Einstein warned “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used to create them.” If there ever was a teachable moment this is surely it! That “Perfect Storm” recognized by most us has arrived.
A confluence of illness, planetary degradation, poverty, social turmoil, political and religious fundamentalism washing over humankind. What better time than imposed solitude for heartfelt examination of where we’ve been – and where we’re going?
Challenges facing us now fall far beyond “revolutionary” in nature, but demanding action and change on absolutely” evolutionary” levels! At least three critical sectors of human activity may be abbreviated as “Sermation.” That’s a shorthand for Service-Information-Automation. Compassionate service to ourselves, others and our planetary home. Information because only with scientifically established data can we guide our actions to success. Automation takes in algorithms, machinery and AI (artificial intelligence) in pursuit of creative ends, as opposed to often destructive purposes.
No walls nor gates, no matter how beautiful, can hope to protect us from ourselves or tiny organisms whose job, much like our own, is survival and flourishing. Only through acceptance that our endless drive to consume (the word speaks for itself), pursue wealth and power, can we even begin to salvage the planetary home that we savage daily! Only then through awareness and resolve can we dare hope to fulfill our role as stewards of our beautiful, blue island drifting in space, and our fellow creatures.
Heavy stuff, to be sure. We may even enter the mental territory of young Anne Frank as she huddled in shelter while the outside world went mad. So please consider different perspectives and viewpoints as we, too, are among the many seeking shelter. Stay healthy and thoughtful - for your sake and the others.
