The Destin Lady Marlins put two wins in the book last week with a 48-20 win over the Pryor Pirates and then a 43-9 whipping of the Meigs Wildcats.


With the two victories, the Marlins moved to 8-0 going into the holiday break.


“We played very well last week,” said Destin Coach Susie Pierce. “We were fighting through some sickness, so our substitution rotations were different. Some of our newer players stepped up and hit some big baskets for us. Cami Davies scored six points from the left wing.”


Davies scored those six points against Pryor all in the fourth quarter.


Top scorer for Destin against Pryor was sixth grader Carson Fayard with 22 points, all in the first three quarters.


Anna Kimball scored 10 points for Destin, while Ava Smith and Davies each added six.


In the first quarter against Pryor, Destin jumped out to a 17-7 lead.


In the second, Destin continued to bury the Pirates, putting up 13 points to their three.


In the third, Destin nailed 12 points, while Pryor hit for seven.


As for the game against Meigs, it was total Destin domination.


Destin came out of the gate with 16 points in the first quarter with Kimball leading the way with eight points. Fayard and Smith each added four. Meigs scored only one point from the free-throw line.


In the second, the Lady Marlins didn’t let up, adding another 15 points. Kimball added eight points. Jessica Pierce knocked down a 3-pointer, while Davies and Smith each added two points. Meigs scored two points.


In the second half, Destin outscored Meigs 12-6.


Top scorer for Destin was Kimball with 18 points. Smith hit double digits with 10 points and Fayard picked up eight points.


“Our defense has picked up it’s intensity lately as the kids are understanding the rotations better and are able to jump in and out of different defenses very quickly,” Pierce said.


Up next for the undefeated Marlins is a 6:30 p.m. game Jan. 7 at Ruckel Middle School in Niceville.
