“16.6 million searches are performed in Google every month by patrons looking for restaurants nearby, which makes Google data a reliable indicator of the nation’s interest in dining out,” Chef’s Pencil said in a release from June 30.

The places with the highest ratio of restaurant searches over the past seven days are all tourism destinations. Panama City and Orange Beach, Alabama, were the two most popular, followed by Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the release said.

Destin came in at No. 9.

“The trend is both encouraging and worrying at the same time, as many states are experiencing a steady growth in COVID-19 cases and there is noticeable overlap between those and the ones where people are going out more,” the release said.

Florida has seen a sharp increase in the number of cases since beaches and restaurants began reopening. On Thursday, July 2, Florida Department of Health reported a record high number of cases at 10,109 in a 24-hour period.
