For a weekend to remember, visit the Village of Baytowne Wharf for Memorial Day and the kick-off to the summer season.

Stroll around the Village while visiting your favorite shops and restaurants, and don't forget to bring a blanket or chair as the three-day celebration kicks off Saturday as local musician Chris Alvarado brings his musical talents to the event plaza stage for a free concert from 7-9 p.m.

"This kicks off the summer season at Baytowne," said Lanier Motes, special events manager for the Village of Baytowne Wharf .

As the weekend turns to Sunday, the fun and festivities continue as The Doerfels take the stage at 7 p.m. with their progressive tunes that blend acoustics and rock and roll. The band is composed of the Doerfel brothers and sisters and they have been "playing music from the time they could walk."

"It's really going to be a great show for the kids and for adults," Motes said.

And don't rush out after the show or you will miss the grand fireworks show that guarantees to light up the sky over the lagoon at 9:15 p.m.

On Memorial Day itself, Baytowne sets the stage to honor veterans.

Sandestin's veterans will partner with the Sandestin Owner's Association for a program from 7 p.m. until sunset that will feature a variety of speakers and presenters from Hurlburt Field, Eglin Air Force Base, local Eagle Scouts and other organizations. The ceremony will include a full band playing patriotic music.

"We are going to be recognizing the true meaning of Memorial Day," said Motes. "It's going to be a great time."
