Alaqua hero of the month

Special to The Sun

Shelly DeVaughn has been a devoted volunteer at Alaqua Animal Refuge for six years. She works mostly with cats, feeding them, grooming them, keeping the cabins clean, and giving them unconditional love.

Shelly works full time and on her only two days off, she spends her mornings at Alaqua. She is always willing to help in any way possible, and when there are enough cat volunteers, she helps walk dogs. She also lends a hand when trying to get “SVU dogs” to the play yard. She has frequently helped out by fostering kittens and puppies as well. She is also a “foster fail,” meaning she adopted one of the dogs she fostered.

Shelly is a massage therapist and at Christmas she often gives her monetary Christmas gifts to Alaqua. Shelly has a heart of gold and believes in Alaqua and its mission. We are proud to call Shelly an Alaqua team member and we hope to have her on our side for years to come.
