United Way awarded Boeing Grant

Special to The Sun

The Boeing Company has awarded a grant to the United Way of Okaloosa-Walton Counties to assist with a program focusing on “Success to Stability.” The objective of the grant funds will support United Way agencies in three key focus areas, (1) increasing enrollment in and completion of degree, certification and training programs, (2) providing access to family-sustaining employment in targeted industries and (3) providing support to help individuals retain employment and advance their careers.

Ronda Davenport, VP of Campaign and Marketing said, “To get individuals and families out of poverty permanently, we must help them identify the skills needed to succeed and guide them to find their own achievement.”

The Success to Stability program will benefit the diverse clients of the United Way’s local agencies’ by helping families become financially stable. Individuals and families that are working but not able to meet basic needs can attain their goals of self-sufficiency. In addition agencies will be able to provide leadership and resources, training, counseling, resume building and partner with local businesses for job opportunities.

The demand for services is rapidly exceeding the funding that is available. In 2013 United Way partnering agencies offered services to 4,427 individuals by supporting their need for money management, educational courses, post-secondary education support and guidance, daily living development and employment services through job-skills training.
