Walton County to Open Severe Weather Shelter

Due to the significant threat of severe weather to occur across our region tonight, Walton County Emergency Management is opening a severe weather shelter beginning at 7 p.m. at the following location:

DeFuniak Springs Community Center

361 North 10th Street

The National Weather Service is predicting severe weather to include:

· Scattered tornadoes - some of significant intensity

· Destructive winds in excess of 70 mph

· Large hail - in excess of golf ball size

If you do not feel safe in your home due to the threat of severe weather, you may go to this shelter. Should you decide to take advantage of this shelter, please bring the following with you:

· Medications

· Important documents

· Personal hygiene supplies
