Caelin's tree goes home with famous couple
After The Sun wrote an article last week about Caelin Reeves and the Christmas trees that he builds and sells in a quest to buy an old car to refurbish with his dad, the young man and his trees have seen an outpouring of support.
"I have no words! The response has been amazing," said Caelin's mom, Julie Reeves.
Reeves said Caelin was busy all day Saturday making trees and taking them down to his grandmother's store -- Footprints Gift Shop in Miramar Beach.
During one of those trips down to the store he met former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and his wife Janet, who had read about Caelin's project in The Sun and had come to support him in his effort and buy one of his trees. Huckabee talked to Caelin and had some advice for him, which included when you reach your goal and buy your car, don't speed.
Pam Dowling was working when the Huckabees stopped in.
"What a gracious couple they are," she said.
"Caelin was really excited and overwhelmed and kind of star struck to see all the people come out and support him in his dream," added Reeves.
She said a Marine also came out and talked to him about his goal.
"The Marine didn't buy a tree, but just talked to him and gave him a $20 donation towards his goal," said Reeves.
She believes that 10 or 11 of Caelin's decorative trees have sold since the article came out.
"His dad is looking for more palettes today so he can make more for the upcoming weekend," she said.
