The Walton County Board of County Commissioners will consider 54 parcels of property at a special meeting on Dec. 13, which if purchased might be used for parking, recreational, or public beach access for residents and visitors to South Walton.

The total price would come to around $115 million if all were purchased.

The Tourist Development Council has been mandated to find property that could be used as beach accesses and for parking and has looked at several locations in the past couple of years. Some are purchased by the county and some are not. The compilation of properties to be considered on Tuesday may be the largest to be presented at once, and they will be presented to a board with two new sitting commissioners.

"As I was mandated earlier this year by commissioners, I have gathered the information for their consideration," said TDC head Jay Tusa. "The prices reflect the current asking price. All due diligence and negotiation will be conducted according to Walton County rules and guidelines for public property acquisition should the commissioners be interested in pursuing the possible purchases further.

"The process involves review by the county's legal department and other departments such as finance, public works and planning," he added.
