Home rental service looking to connect PGA golfers with Florida homeowners for Honda Classic
A Chicago-based hospitality company that facilitates home rentals during sporting events is looking for potential renters ahead of next month’s Honda Classic golf tournament.
Rent Like A Champion will host an informational meeting Monday from 6-8 p.m. at PGA National Resort & Spa.
The company will provide information and answer questions from West Palm Beach-area homeowners interested in renting their homes during the PGA TOUR golf event.
The 2020 Honda Classic will be played Feb. 24-March 1 at PGA National.
“Renting your home out can seem a little daunting if you’ve never done it before,” Rent Like A Champion CEO Dave Longwell said. “But our number one priority is to provide as much transparency and information as possible.”
This will be the fourth year that Rent Like A Champion will coordinate home rentals for the Honda Classic,
There are about 20-30 area homes that are currently listed with the company, and Longwell hopes to have between 50 and 75 secured before the tournament begins.
Homes will be rented to pro golfers, tournament personnel and VIPs.
Homeowners can make from $1,000 to $3,000 per bedroom per week for the duration of the tournament, Longwell said.
“It’s a lucrative little side hustle,” he said.
Longwell said the company gets all types of requests for rental homes, with proximity to the golf course being a key criteria.
“We try to build up a good base of homes in the area,” he said. “But people will come to us and tell us what they’re looking for, and we’ll try to help them find it.”
Rent Like A Champion was founded in 2006 in South Bend, Ind., as a platform for homeowners near college football stadiums to earn money by renting their homes out to fans on game day weekends.
Since then, the company has helped homeowners nationwide earn $12 million, secured a deal on ABC’s “Shark Tank,” and expanded its service into professional golf events.
“For the past four or five years, golf has become a major part of our business,” Longwell said. “We currently have partnerships with PGA Tour events, and we’re very proud to have hosted many of the top golfers from the U.S. to Europe.”
Monday’s informational meeting will include complementary drinks and light hors d’oeuvres. There will be a short presentation at 6:30 p.m. from the RLAC team, which will stay to answer questions until 8 p.m.
